Year 2020 — The Year of the Make or Break

For all of us.

Rewind a year ago, and there I was planning this year. I talked of balance, progress and development of some ideas. I had this idea of being able to spend more time in the UK thanks to a larger online customer base, carefully balanced with farm commitments.

Well we all know what happened, but with each kick in the balls came a sticky toffee pudding with a dollop or two of ice cream. In plain English, I took the rough with the smooth, and at the end of 2020, I think I made it, and perhaps I’m even better for it. I had named it the year of the make or break in December 2019, and I remain mostly unbroken.

Winter fun

Having not gone home for Christmas, I surprised by Nan at her 90th birthday last January, and we had a huge party with family members we hadn’t seen for years. It was a great start to the year.

I was also training for the Split Marathon, my so-called retirement race, but before that I went on a multi-day trip with a group of teenagers and teachers to Dalj (near Vukovar in the north) and Zagreb.

One of the teens came on the trip a bit poorly, with a cough he couldn’t shake off. Needless to say, by the end of the trip, most of us had it, one girl with a really bad fever, one teacher who had to take two weeks…
