Winter Mode: On
Flicking my productivity switch
On the drive home the other day, I noticed something weird.
My feet were cold.
This could only mean one thing — summer was over.
The clocks have jumped back and the mornings have brightened up, for a little while at least. The temperatures are dropping, and not too much thanks to this moderate climate, but enough that my now-well-adjusted feet get a bit chilly. The sun still shines brightly, but the warmth isn’t as strong. The sea is enticing, with a brief brrrr when you enter, but soon that brrrr will be quite a few r’s longer.
Sometimes I ask myself how I ever lived in Liverpool, wearing t-shirts most of the winter especially when on a night out. But that was a long time ago, and since then I have lived in much warmer places than where I do now.
It’s also not just our bodies that adapt but also our minds and our habits when we shift from one season to another. There are four seasons here, there is no denying that, but when it comes to my modus operandi, there are two, and to keep it easy I call them summer and winter.
Here’s how I switch from one to another.
