What do you do for yourself?

Should be a simple answer…

Sat at a kitchen table, sipping on some fancy lemonade with a friend of mine, we’d been discussing what’s happening in our lives. A lot of the trivial stuff is known already, from brief encounters and beers after football.

There was a bit more time to catch up, so as often is the case, I started with what was happening in the world of work. After going through the various projects I’m happy to be leading, the question was posed.

What do you do for yourself?

Jerk reaction

Immediately my mind went to the place where actually everything I do is for myself. The things I work on, I work on because I want to see that change, that improvement, that product, that service and so on. The places I volunteer I do so because I think it’s important to give back especially when being blessed with a few privileges in life.

But would this pass as an answer, or would there be inquisition, cross examining and poking? I didn’t know, so I jumped to my first response.

Gardening

This somehow was my first response, probably because it was planting season and I had just bought a car full of various vegetables and herbs that need to be planted before the rain came.
