Uptown, downtown

Kenya — Silly poems for your backpack

Downtown Nairobi, Kenya

You’re rubbing shoulders,
and bashing bags.
Walking through downtown.

The place is alive,
there’s a buzz.
A heightened sense of urgency.

You cross that road,
and things quieten.
Walking through uptown.

The place is calmer,
without the buzz.
A heightened sense of fashion.

It was a surprise then,
when I was informed,
downtown wasn’t for me.

It’s full of crooks,
scammers and more.
It’s nicknamed Nairobbery.

While I travel, I enjoy writing a bit of poetry, mostly silly stuff, but all to remember the fun I had.

I publish them all on Medium, so check out my other poems here.
