The truth about business competition
Hint: It’s not a tale of dog eat dog
We’ve all watched the Olympics. Let’s take the 100m for example. We’ve seen the competitors psyche themselves up beforehand, walking around and shaking their arms and legs.
Then we see them get themselves ready, slowly dipping into place before that starting gun is fired. They give it their all, hoping that their breathing and their legs and their movement syncs perfectly to give them that gold medal.
They’re looking to beat the opposition but they’re completely focussed on their game. They know what it might take to win, and they work hard at doing that.
The winner crosses the line, a huge smile on their face. They look around. The crowd are going wild, their competitors crossing the line behind them. Then they come up, they congratulate. There are smiles all round.
In fact the only way that winner won, was because his competitors supported them. They pushed them to the next level. They may have even trained together.
Outside sport
The business world is very similar to that Olympics track. If you look at your sector or your location, and think about who the rivals are, the likelihood is that you all know each other. The chances are that at some stage, staff…
