The travel bug.

Why is it so easy to catch?

I have to admit, I do hear voices now and again. My inner self is constantly churning out many messages, but one that happens weekly, and that’s at the very least, tells me to grab my backpack and go explore.

I’m coming up to four years in one place. The longest period I’ve stayed in one place during my adult life by far. So perhaps that is why this track seems to be on repeat, as I have starved the travel bug of what it needs to thrive. I have stemmed my gypsy blood and stuck to a plan of being in one place — well almost.

The bug is still there, I haven’t found a cure for it (nor would I ever want to) but I have been thinking about what makes people catch it in the first place.

Back to being a kid

As we do things more and more, we get tired of them, and they no longer provide that thrill or wonder as before. Travelling can become a chore, and many people suffer travel fatigue after many months on the road, however when you start out you’re like a kid again.

Everything is fresh, new, and mostly amazing.

You explore new places, try new foods, see new sites.

The people look weird, the smells are different and the sounds are music to your ears.
