Nepal — Silly poems for your backpack

Looking back on Kongma La pass (5550m)

These are like no other,
Where your hand can touch a plane,
Or at the very least, a cloud.

But to reach these heights,
It is no simple feat,
Your body will scream out loud.

The elevation does not matter,
What’s 700m up after all?
Yet it’s in the thousands we start.

At times you’ll gasp,
Or need to stop,
You’ll feel your lungs and heart.

Sometimes you think you’ve made it,
Only to be let down,
There’s one more climb to do.

Just find your own rhythm,
Move slowly and forwards,
Be rewarded with pride and that view.

While I travel I enjoy writing a bit of poetry, mostly silly stuff, but all to remember the fun I had.

I recently completed the three peaks, three passes, Everest base camp trek — read more about that here and look out for my other poems!
