We’ve all seen the scenes in the films that portray the Mediterranean lifestyle. Picture yourself driving that vintage Vespa, as you weave around the mountain roads, preferably with a stunning Italian on the back (or maybe for you, you’d be on the back).

You come to a pristine white stone square in the middle of a humble village, where everyone greets you and you sit down for your morning coffee. Friends and family pass by or might join you, and other people pick up their daily bread or fish from the market.

Now pinch yourself, and pinch yourself again. If you’re reading this in the Mediterranean, then you know it isn’t a dream. Okay so we don’t all have Vespas, but my Škoda does just the trick (fine, fine, there is no stunning Italian in the car either), and transports me from my London head to my Mediterranean one.

Here are the three steps to ensuring you too can lead that lifestyle, without the stunner, square or sardines.
