The day I donned a promo t-shirt
What are the implications of this moment?
I’ve always had a small wardrobe, and over the past decade I’ve rarely refilled it myself.
Socks are a constant Christmas present, underwear I buy in bulk when I have one too many holey pairs, shoes and trousers I actually try on and shirts and t-shirts are often bought for me.
Recently though I reached a new level of the clothes I wear, and I am not sure how it reflects. Opening another promotional bag, I was gifted a promotional t-shirt for an event I had been part of. Such a promo gift used to really annoy me, I didn’t need another t-shirt — who does? We already have wardrobes full of colours and motifs we like.
But this time I decided I should wear it. If not it would end up in a second hand shop and considering I buy things from there, I should just cut the middle man. What added to this crazy moment was that the t-shirt is white, a colour I tend to avoid due to the need to have its own wash.
I shared this momentous event with a friend, and asked her what it really meant?
Am I no longer cool?
When I see other people wearing promo shirts, it really depends on the look and the message as to whether it’s cool or not. It’s a well-known joke in the tech sector that many workers…
