Speakers and their fees
Sixty minutes for them is sixty days for you
With event season about to get into full swing, I’ve been asked to host various conferences. I am engaged in some of these a little more than others, and know a bit about the goings on behind the scenes.
There’s all the preparation and finding sponsors, then there’s the venue and the catering, and finally the agenda for the day(s).

Now I’ve written about valuing your time before, but over the past couple of months I’ve had discussions about what people feel is a suitable amount for giving a presentation, or a speech, or up to sixty minutes of their time.
The feedback varies. Some people argue the case of big fees, if, of course, the value is returned. Ultimately it will bring people to that place, buy a ticket and potentially stay there a bit longer. This is kind of how the music industry works, with venues bringing in those big headliners knowing it will be a cash cow of sorts.
