My 72 hour fast

An ever-evolving affair

A good friend of mine keeps up to date with all the latest articles and research about how to keep your body in tip-top shape, reduce health issues and hopefully extend your lifespan. He’s always sharing different ideas and methods, most of which he has tried himself.

One of these was a fast, and he explained the effect it had on his energy levels and also his asthma. Intrigued, I suggested that we do one together for accountability, and possibly even try a five-day fast at some time. Stuck at home because of the Covid situation, it was the perfect time.

The fast meant that for 72 hours I would only be drinking tea, black coffee or water. No smoothies or a glass of Cedevita and no food, not even a snack or dried fig.

Here’s what happened.

12 hours

Having started the fast at 9pm, the first 12 hours were pretty easy since I had slept through most of it. I woke up in the morning normally, and made myself a tea and a coffee. There were no cravings, although not digging into a large bowl of granola was weird, as my breakfast ritual went out of the window.

24 hours

Still no cravings a whole day on, I had started to feel a bit weary as the evening drew near, as I still did my usual exercises as…
