Getting stuck in the mud even before we reached the park, our driver rescued them

Oh to think I almost didn’t go on a safari.

I had already planned a large chunk of my trip to Kenya, like the hike to Point Lenana and a trip to Lake Victoria to catch up with fellow social entrepreneurs.

The trip was getting quite hectic and quite pricey, however in my 20s I decided that cost wasn’t a reason not to do something because you can always go back, work harder and earn that money back.

So after a chat with my sister who had been to Kenya 25 years earlier, I knew I had to do one. I asked a connection if he could recommend one, but he only knew of private ones and I wanted something a tad cheaper.

In the end, after a bit of research I opted for a 4 day 3 night Masai Mara Safari. An evening and morning game drive and two full day ones. I booked with Jockey Tours, but there are an abundance of offerings.

It’s a bit of potluck, and I hit jackpot, so much so I changed my tour.

The guide

Throughout my whole stay in Kenya I was impressed by the high level of service and hospitality. Whilst sometimes rooms or facilities were extremely basic, it didn’t matter, because the staff there would fill it with the warmth you needed.
