Dealing with our highs and lows
A look at life’s flow
I’ve been working on a problem of mine for a few years now. A problem that I can vividly highlight moments of, throughout my thirty odd years on this planet. It’s something that I’m sure we’ve all struggled with.
I’m talking our ability to cope with moments of high energy and glee and those of lethargy and ‘meh’. I don’t just mean emotionally either, but in a variety of different parts of our lives. Another piece of the puzzle finally found its spot recently, which prompted a look back at what was, and spark thoughts into what might be.
Of mind
It’s best to start here, a place where we can see fluctuations on sometimes an hourly basis. Waking up on Monday to glorious sunshine and a warm breeze, to then receiving some bad news halfway through the morning. This is resolved before the end of the day, and you hear your friend’s baby has been born, and both mother and child are healthy.
When you’re on the way down, you can keep going down and see no end. Fortunately a friend of mine opened up about their own struggles with mild depression. They would tell themselves that that day was bad, and they did feel awful, but tomorrow could be better. It wasn’t 100% sure, but the probability was there.
