Curious birds
New Zealand — Silly poems for your backpack
The native birds are a wonderful sight,
Like nothing I had seen before,
The main reason why they enchanted me so,
Was because they preferred to stay on the floor.
Their names are also memorable,
once you can say them right,
From the Kakapo, Weka and Takahe,
All which never take flight.
Their characters are unique, thanks to the fact,
That we don’t pose a threat.
They get on with their own day, searching for food,
Your presence not making them fret.
They’ll take an interest in what you do,
Peck at your bag and come close to you,
Mooch around your tent during the night,
At first they’ll give you quite a fright.
Please take care of your rubbish,
Be mindful of them,
They’re slowly disappearing,
so look after this gem.
While I travel, I enjoy writing a bit of poetry, mostly silly stuff, but all to remember the fun I had.
I publish them all on Medium, so check out my other poems here.
