With ashes to be scattered
and prayer flags to be hung,
we went to the temple,
for a blessing.

Inside safe the wise lama
surrounded by his trinkets
and then knelt David
for the blessing.

It started with a prayer,
then a chant and a splash.
Some incense, and a sash
of the blessing.

David bowed forward,
for his symbol of good luck,
and that, so we thought,
was the blessing.

But no, one by one,
we each knelt for a prayer.

Then a bang on the head,
and a string round the neck,
before we could leave.
What a blessing!

While I travel I enjoy writing a bit of poetry, mostly silly stuff, but all to remember the fun I had.

I recently completed the three peaks, three passes, Everest base camp trek — read more about that here and look out for my other poems!
