March is here and it’s time to nip some things in the bud, for this month at least.

I remember when I first did this and struggled. I never quite figured out why it was hard to give certain things up. Perhaps it was lack of willpower or simply because it wasn’t the right time.

Well now things are different, this is something I do twice a year and actually enjoy doing it. There is no religious context to it, just purely the want and will to do so.

Things I’ve given up

I can think back a long time ago to New Year’s resolutions when I would try to give certain things up for the year. It never worked out, because as a teenager I would try to quit things which were pretty fundamentally me just me being me. So I changed things in my twenties to focus on “Hopes and Aims” for the year.

The concept started on a 37 hour bus ride from Rio to Buenos Aires with my coHAer Gen. Since then we’ve met each year early Jan to discuss what we hope that year will offer, and reflect on the year before. Pressure free. If we don’t manage, fuck it, it wasn’t meant to be, and if we do it, great, onto the next HA. A few notable mentions this year include camping outside more, regaining physical prowess and going on another adventure.
