A world of self harm
Everyone’s favourite hobby
When people normally think of self-harm, they’re likely to think of teenagers cutting, pinching or scratching themselves or something similar (click here for support for individuals).
They’re likely to link it to an underlying mental health issue, or a period of difficulty in life. However, if we take a step back and look at ourselves, it seems that a lot of us are in a constant state of self-harm of some sort.
We are continuously and repeatedly doing something or acting in a certain way, that we know will affect us in a negatively, both physically and emotionally. And we do it again, and again, and again.
A pint and a couple of e’s
Who hasn’t enjoyed a boozy night out? The majority of us have had a night or two where we have ended up hugging a toilet at the end of the night, vowing never to drink again the next day. However, none of us need to look far before to think about someone who does this every week, or two or three times a week.
Some call it self-medicating, to drown their sorrows or a particularly bad day or week. Others see it as a challenge, and revel in the hangover, so much so that it’s becoming part of normal social construct to brag about it the next day.
